What to wear for Engagements- 5 realistic ways to be you and improved

You are in love, and you are ready to tell the world! Engagement is one of the best times in your life... and now you have to pick what to wear in photos that you will be showing the world! (eek!)

You have to find the right balance of Being yourself/Romance/theme and something grandma would feel comfortable looking at. Don't worry, we feel your pain.

That is why we are here to prepare you (and your sweetheart) to look perfect for your session.

1: Be You and Improved

so, your man dons Baseball Caps and Graphic T's on the daily! While this may be an out-word expression of his individuality, it doesn't highlight his good looks (especially to the camera). Tell him to ditch logos, hats, and anything that could be considered distracting.

Same goes for you too! Its okay to be you, but try reeling it in and realizing your sweet short-shorts are probably not appropriate. Trust me, clean and classy is key.

One of your outfits, ideally should be semi-formal, one should be clean casual, and one should be more fun, this can be an ode to your theme, or something that makes you just feel your best! All of your outfits should be a few steps above what you would wear on an average day.

2: Decide Color Tonality

So you have an idea of what few outfits you like, but how do you chose colors?

I had a teacher that always said that you are either a Warm person or a Cool person, meaning each and every one of us leans in one direction when it comes to color. I, prefer for my skin and my taste warmer tones (reds, rich red/browns, yellows, etc) while some other people might prefer their skin with shades of purple, blue, cool grey etc).

Decide what brings out the best in your skin and stick to it for the both of you.

3: Neutrals + Pops of Color

You can see this kind of thing all over pinterest, how you combine a neutral with color is key to not looking like you match...this also applies to family photos.

Neutrals include: Denim, white, black, grey, and even tan

Pops of colors can be small (such as an accessory color) or a colored shirt, cardigan, pant, skirt or dress. It can be big or small, but the more subtle you can be the less distracting.

Just in case you didn't catch it the first time. This is a big one! You shouldn't wear something that can be read, this allows the viewer to focus on you and your amazing love!

Don't be afraid of Pattern, it truly can be something that adds character and interest to your photos. Below we see James wearing plaid, which was in this case a popped pattern.

5: Wear Clothes that fit properly!

Ironically this is a majorly overlooked piece of advice. Ladies can look several pounds heavier if something is too tight or too big. Guys with baggy pants could be spending a large portion of the session pulling up their pants. In the case of bagginess, its more than something a belt can fix. Nothing flatters a person more than a proper fit.

Go to the tailors and ask if the fit is appropriate if you are unsure, or ask a friend you trust to give their input!
